Bio

PhD-trained epidemiologist focused on HIV epidemiology among key populations, particularly sexual and gender minorities. I am interested in improving quantification of the impacts of structural determinants on HIV and other sexually transmitted infections and how we can better incorporate quantitative and qualitative evidence to generate insights that inform and strengthen prevention and care for sexual and gender minorities.

• Conducted systematic reviews and meta-analyses on engagement in HIV treatment and care and links with structural factors, including criminalisation, among key populations, supervised by Prof. Marie-Claude Boily.

Skills

• Extensive experience in statistical analysis using R, Stata, and Stan, applying frequentist and Bayesian methods, including regression, meta-analysis, subgroup and sensitivity analyses, latent modelling, and causal inference to analyse observational data.
• Experienced with mathematical modelling and advised on modelling procedures for UNAIDS 95-95-95 targets based on the first paper of my PhD thesis.
• Extensive presentation experience, including an invited presentation of findings from my PhD thesis’ to UNAIDS and partners in Stellenbosch, South Africa, as well as other national and international research meetings and conferences.
• Numerous publications and writing experience, including successful funding applications.
• Extensive project leadership experience through coordinating cohort studies.

Notable projects

• Coordinated two mixed-methods cohort studies in Kenya in collaboration with local community-based organisations. Both studies applied a longitudinal quantitative survey (12-18 months duration) and longitudinal qualitative interviews. I helped develop and test survey materials, led virtual training sessions, conducted weekly meetings with teams over Zoom, coordinated data collection activities, and managed the studies to ensure they ran smoothly.
• Co-led a large analysis of the impact of HIV stigma on HIV outcomes in Africa using all publicly available population-based nationally representative surveys, encompassing over 2 million people.
• Led an analysis of the Engage study conducted in Vancouver, Montreal, and Toronto to estimate the population-level impact of intimate partner violence among gay and bisexual men on bacterial STI acquisition.
• Led an individual participant data meta-analaysis to estimate the longitudinal effect of homophobic violence on HIV in multiple cohort studies of sexual and gender minority individuals across Africa.
• Led multiple systematic and scoping reviews, and meta-analyses as first author.
